Square Enix has just made it official and announced the release date of Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4. That date will be the 11th of October, as the franchise (even if rebooted) celebrates its 20 year anniversary.
When you buy this game, you will get the entirety of the previous game, if you haven’t played it already, and it also includes a whole new chapter, which will be called Blood Ties. In this new chapter, you will have to protect Lara Croft’s home from a lot of incoming angry zombies. The Blood Ties chapter can also be enjoyed fully in VR by lovers of the Tomb Raider franchise and players can choose between a 3rd person and a 1st person perspective while playing the new adventure, something never before seen in a Tomb Raider game.
You will get access to something called co-op endurance gemeplay and the release will include all the DLC content (weapons, outfits, expedition cards) released so far. For your money, you will receive a limited edition art book as well, something that the collector type gamer always enjoys. Another interesting feature will be the option to choose a higher difficulty setting for the story mode, if you’re a seasoned Tomb Raider player.
This release has been available for Xbox and PC users since November of last year and is available for free to people who are holders of a season pass. Sadly for PlayStation owners, season pass is not available, so you will have to buy this release. But, if you think that’s unfair, keep in mind that the VR gameplay is only available for PS4 gamers.
One of the heads of the developing studio, Scot Amos said:
“Crystal Dynamics is celebrating with all Tomb Raider fans, thanking them for being on Lara’s 20 year old journey with us. The team has packed in surprises, new story and top requested special features into this 20 Year Celebration edition.
Blood Ties, a new premium DLC, beckons players to explore Croft Manor in a new story mode, then defend it against a zombie invasion in Lara’s Nightmare.”
About the co-op feature, he went on to say:
“Two players must team up to survive the harsh elements by day, as well as lethal threats from enemies by night. Fire takes fuel, food restore health, and every resource must be hunted, collected or crafted. Battle to the top of the leaderboards, as others try to beat your longest survival run.”
All in all, this release is something you shouldn’t miss if you’re a die hard fan of Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise.
