At the time of its release, back in 1997, Goldeneye was probably the first ever good shooter. It was so good, kids used to skip school to play it in multiplayer for hours and hours. Hey, at least that’s what we did. Over the years, the game got some mods and remakes, probably made by some of those kids who are all grown up and know their way around modding a game.
Now, 3 years since the last update, fans used the Source game engine created by Valve to remake Goldeneye once again. It’s called Goldeneye: Source, the 5.0 version, and it regards multiplayer only. The game’s original maps received new textures and got new reskins, there are some new multiplayer mods, and the weapons feel completely different. You can also find 2 entirely new maps, called Caverns and Bunker, and you will be able to play as a Russian soldier. The new powerful weapon in the game is a grenade launcher.
The people who have made this mode are trying to keep the game alive and the interest of its fans at a high level. They say they will try to host community events in order to do so and give in game rewards to players, such as a new skin for the pistol, which will be received by anyone who plays the new version until the 31st of August.
They haven’t done anything related to Goldeneye’s single player mode, probably because no one would bother playing it anyway, since interest is so high in the multiplayer. The new version of the game is free to download, so if you’re old enough to know it, or even if you’re just a big fan of shooters, you should give it a try. Also, you should check out the trailer posed in the link below to see what it’s all about.
