There have been many rumors in the past couple of weeks about the Assassin’s Creed franchise and the fans are starting to talk about what they believe is true, what they expect and what their wishes are. First, there was a leak from the Korean Review Board about a possible Assassin’s Creed: Ezio Collection, and even though nothing is official yet, this release was later backed by another leak, made by someone from the promotion department, in the form of a picture of the product, in which we can see the collection contains Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Reveletions, the 3 games in which Ezio was the main character, and the 2 movies.
Before we ever got an official explanation from Ubisoft, another leak, this time regarding the brand new game coming sometime next year, surfaced on the web. This time, a member of the development team took to 4Chan to reveal some details about the game. Of course, many people are skeptical, but the possibility of these rumors being true is quite big, as this has been the case with many other Assassin’s Creed releases. Even Syndicate was leaked before time, in a similar manner, and besides the name (they first said it would be called Victory), most of the leaks turned out to be accurate.
So, let’s start from the beginning. The new games is to be called Assassin’s Creed Empire and it will take place in ancient Egypt. Sure, there are those who like games set in the modern day or the future, who always wish the franchise should be taken closer to the present day, but in general, Assassin’s Creed fans are all about the history and seeing the ancient cities, so Egypt would be a great setting.
Of course, we’ll have a whole new hero. He will presumably be a slave or a former slave, who says next to nothing and let’s his actions do the talking. He is said to be very calm at all times, making us think that the developers wanted to put him in contrast with Altair. The new hero will scout the surroundings and uncover the map with help from an eagle. This will be the first time in franchise history when the main character will have a companion. Regarding this issue, the eagle companion might eliminate synchronizing, as you wouldn’t need to climb to the top of a tall building if your companion brings you the needed information. The leak also revealed this new and mysterious character would be the star of a trilogy of games, just like Ezio. This also gives some truth to the previous Ezio Collection leak, as Ubisoft are probably trying to go back to what worked best for them, releasing the collection to remind the fan base of the glory days, before hitting them with more of the same when the new game comes out.
Besides massive caution (they didn’t want to release another Unity, full of bugs upon release), a reason for Ubisoft taking a year off must be the fact that this new game will borrow absolutely nothing from its predecessors and will have a brand new physics engine and climbing mechanics. The leak said: “The world is made from scratch. No recycling.”. And speaking of this new world, the map will be 3 times as big as that of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. In Black Flag, one problem was getting around, as ship travelling was annoying to many. So, as the new game is 3 times bigger, Ubisoft are said to introduce a system where you can easily reach your destination by simply loading into it. Boat travel is also rumored to be a part of the game, but there will be no naval combat. Another thing you won’t find in the upcoming release is multiplayer co-op.
The leak also explains Greece was originally part of the game, but due to the extensive size of the map, they had to cut it and will probably explore it in future installments. It could be the main setting in the next game and we could also return to Rome, some years prior to Ezio’s existence.
Finally, Ubisoft are said to have put a big emphasis on the story of the upcoming release. It’s logical if your hero is going to be featured in an entire trilogy and the developers probably want to create another legendary character on the model of Ezio.
As we said, there is no official information so far, but, at least when it comes to the Assassin’s Creed series, these leaks and rumors mostly turn out to be true. So, how do you believe the next game will be and how would you wish it to be?
